The rugged peaks and expansive vistas of the American West became a classroom this summer for a group of Kenston High School students, who took learning to new heights during the Kenston Field Experience "Out West" trip. The journey marks the continuation of a long-standing Kenston Schools tradition that combines academic inquiry with outdoor adventure.
The KHS Bombers trekked westward across the country, making a fascinating stop in Nebraska before venturing deep into the breathtaking landscapes of Rocky Mountain National Park. Far from a standard summer vacation, the expedition was packed with hands-on learning, including immersive, on-site lectures detailing the park's unique and rugged geology. The students also shared plenty of laughs, bonding, and fun times around the campsite each evening, especially after completing an epic alpine hike that featured stops at Bear Lake, Dream Lake, The Loch, and Emerald Lake.
The adventure continued as the group headed into Lander, Wyoming, and hit the water for an exhilarating rafting trip on the Snake River. From there, the students explored the majestic peaks of the Grand Tetons and the geothermal wonders of Yellowstone National Park. Heading back eastward, the travelers stopped to marvel at the underground passages of Wind Cave National Park and officially wrapped up their unforgettable journey with a visit to the striking rock formations of the Badlands before returning home to Ohio.
