The sounds and sights of the Great Geauga County Fair are in full swing, and Kenston students are taking center stage. From classroom field trips to months of hands-on preparation, Bombers are showing the community what leadership, creativity, and dedication look like outside school walls.
Hands-On Education and Leadership:
Geauga Learns Day: Kenston fourth graders kicked off the week with an educational visit for Geauga Learns Day, a special program designed to teach students about agriculture, county history, military history, and natural resources.
Leadership shone brightly across the grounds as well:
Junior Fair King: Kenston High School’s Anthony Intelisano earned the honor of serving as this year’s Junior Fair King.
Junior Fair Board: After navigating a competitive interview process, KHS students Lexi and Alden earned spots on the Junior Fair Board, gaining real-world management experience.
Showcasing Craft, Art, and Agriculture: Every building on the fairgrounds features evidence of student creativity and hard work:
Education Building: Vibrant displays showcase student artwork from across the district.
Domestic Arts Building: Visitors can view detailed handcrafted items and baked goods, including a handcrafted, crocheted American flag entered by student Harper Gibson.
Animal Barns: Months of early mornings paid off in the show rings, where students demonstrated livestock mastery. Highlights include Dahlia Freeman of the Geauga Best 4-H Club presenting her 4-year-old Jersey Wooly rabbit, Nimbus, alongside impressive livestock like Reuben, a 254-pound Duroc pig shown by Will Timmons, a member of the Auburn Dairymen Club.
Rivalries and Rhythms: The fair week also brought classic community traditions to life.
The Chicken Flying Contest: In the annual friendly rivalry for the coveted chicken trophy, Superintendent Dr. Willingham represented Kenston in a spirited matchup against West Geauga's superintendent. Though the trophy went elsewhere this round, Dr. Willingham was clear about next year: "Don't worry, Kenston, we'll be back next year!"
Band-O-Rama: The Kenston High School Marching Band and Bomberettes will take the field this Sunday at 1:30 PM for a high-energy performance alongside area high school bands.
When visiting the fair this week, keep an eye out for Kenston students and take a moment to offer a high-five or a word of encouragement to celebrate their hard work.
