The Kenston Rotary Senior for December is Shriya Selvan, an exceptional scholar-leader with a 4.433 GPA whose commitment to academics, neuroscience, public health, and advocacy distinguishes her among her peers. Shriya is an AP Scholar with Distinction, a recipient of the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, and will complete 15 Advanced Placement courses by graduation. She has also earned the French Seal of Biliteracy, the Financial Literacy Award, and AP French Student of the Year, and was a grade-level winner in the AMC Competition, among many additional honors.
Throughout her high school years, Shriya has served on the Student Voices for Positive Change Leadership Committee and is the President of the French Club. She is also the founder and president of Kenston’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapter and will also help co-organize Kenston’s 2026 STEAM Night.
Shriya is the creator of the 2025 documentary Wired for Memory: The Science of Soul & Care, produced in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association of America, and she serves as the sole student lobbyist on Congressman David Joyce’s Alzheimer’s Congressional Task Force, advancing legislation on biomarker-based early detection. She has been invited to lobby on Capitol Hill at the 2026 AIM Advocacy Forum, and she has completed two years of independent cancer research at Case Western Reserve University, with a manuscript currently under review. Shriya authors the academic blog ArtSciSnippets, writes neuroscience explainers for NeuroNotes, and participates in the USC Neuroscience Journal Club, where her capstone project ranked among the top six of more than sixty submissions.
Shriya’s dedication to service is equally remarkable. She volunteers with the Northeast Ohio Tamil Nadu Foundation, the American Red Cross, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, and Rise Against Hunger, where she was featured on Cleveland.com for her contributions. As a Schoolhouse senior tutor, she has taught students across nine countries and led SAT preparation workshops, while also supporting her community as an after-school supervisor and library volunteer.
After graduation, Shriya plans to attend a four-year university, majoring in neuroscience on a pre-medical track, with potential studies in public health, policy, and film. She hopes to dedicate her career to advancing research, care, and public awareness for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions.
